A Reminder from Peter

My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, 
Of your deeds of salvation all the day,
For their number is past my knowledge.
Ps. 71:15, ESV

Peter understood the power of reminders. Church history attests that the gospel of Mark was heavily influenced by the Apostle Peter’s experiences, stories and preaching, which Peter wanted to pass on for the advancement of the Church. Truly, he was the rock until the end of his life. 

In 2 Peter 1:13, Peter stated that he wanted to stir up his fellow believers’ faith by way of reminder. What’s the importance of reminders for us? Why tell the story of what God has done in your life? As much as others need to hear of the works of the Lord, we need to be reminded ourselves. It serves both the hearer and the teller to recount what Jesus has done and is doing in their lives.

Jesus Himself gave Peter a reminder that once he turned back after his three denials of Jesus, to strengthen his brothers and sisters (Luke 22:31-21). Peter’s work wasn’t done because Jesus wasn’t done working in and through him. And Jesus isn’t done working in and through us, either (Phil. 1:6). Therefore, let us bless our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus (1 Peter 1:3) for causing us to be born again into this new life that He’s given us!
