He is Able

8/27/2025

For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father.
Eph. 3:14, ESV

So when I fight, I’ll fight on my knees
With my hands lifted high
O God, the battle belongs to You
From “Battle Belongs” by Phil Wickham

There’s something about kneeling in prayer before our Father that reminds us of several important things:
  • It’s reminds us that we’re addressing our Father in Heaven.
  • It reminds us of who we are.
  • It reminds us that we’re completely dependent on His grace.

The prayer of Paul that we walked through on Sunday is a wonderful example of what a kingdom prayer looks like. I recently heard a respected pastor share the thought that we often learn to pray by imitation. This is a good point and I think that we can learn a good lesson from Paul here. After humbling himself and acknowledging God as Father, Paul prayed. He asked that the Father would grant for the Ephesian believers to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit in the inner person so that Christ would dwell fully and expansively in their hearts. He asked that in being rooted and grounded in love, they would again be strengthened to understand/grasp how big Christ’s love truly is and that they would be filled with the fullness of God. Paul closes with a doxology of praise to God, the One who is Able to do even better and beyond what we can even conceive. He is able. And, that’s that.

Let’s pray for His fullness for one another!

Pastor Andy

Please read Eph. 4:1-6 for Sunday.

Questions for reflection or discussion:
  • How does kneeling remind you of the importance of the posture of your heart? What other postures help you honor God and remind you of your need for humility?
  • Do you pray like He is able?
  • Are you willing to pray for these same things Paul prays for the Ephesians for others? For yourself?
