His Word is a Lamp: 1 Thessalonians

On Sunday, we studied Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, which was mainly a letter of reassurance to the believers there. 

Paul was reassuring them about three main things:

1. Their loved ones who had died had not missed Christ neither would they miss His return. (4:14-15)
2. Paul genuinely cared for them. He described himself as gentle as a nursing mother among them and that he had taught & encouraged them as a father would his own children, thus they could believe his gospel message. (2:3-11)
3. They were bearing fruit as a good church in Christ does and their testimony & ministry were sounding forth from them, 1 Thess. 1:7-10.  It was in their faith, hope, and love that they were bearing fruit and showing God’s work among them. (1:3)

Not only was Paul reassuring the Thessalonians about their faith and the sincerity of the message he preached to them, he was encouraging them to continue to live out their faith in Jesus in their daily lives. 

Paul also encourages us to live our our faith by:

• Pressing into His will for us:
  • Sanctification: our hearts are to be set apart to Him and not engaged in the things of the world (4:1-8)
  • Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances: this keeps our hearts turned towards Him and in communion with Him (5:16-18)
• Remaining alert, sober and awake, so we can be ready for His return (5:4-8)
• Encouraging one another (4:11, 5:11)
• 
  

I pray that the reassurances and encouragements that Paul sent to the Thessalonians would take root in our own hearts and lives!
