His Word is a Lamp: Acts

Dear NewLife Family, 
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead changed everything! Everything that we studied on Sunday in the book of Acts flows out of His Resurrection. For example, if Christ was not resurrected, then there would be no Ascension or the pouring out of the Holy Spirit and certainly there would be no Church or missions movement. But, He arose from the grave! Thus, He went to the Father, the Spirit was poured out, the Church was born and the Word began to spread. The Church continues to this day as Jesus promised and we are empowered by His Spirit for holy living and to be His witnesses. 
Here’s a quick list of the 7 Things That We See in Acts, which we studied on Sunday:

• We see the Resurrected Jesus: He’s alive and has conquered sin, death, the devil, and the grave, Acts 1:1-3. We live because He lives, John 14:19.
• We see the mission Jesus has for His Church, Acts 1:8.
• We see the Ascension of Jesus Christ, Acts 1:9-11.
• We see the Father’s outpouring of the Power, Presence, and work of the Holy Spirit, as seen in Acts 2 (the day of Pentecost) and throughout the remainder of the book.
• We see the beginning of the Church, Acts 2:42-47.
• We see the beginning of the spreading of the missions movement, as seen in chapter 8 with persecution of the Church and Paul’s conversion in chapter 9. 
• We see the power of prayer: 
  • Acts 1:12-14 
  • Acts 2:42 Believers devoted themselves to: prayer 
  • Acts 3:1 Peter and John going to temple at hour of prayer: miraculous healing
  • Acts 4:23-31 The early Church prays for boldness
  • Acts 6:4 Apostles devote themselves to prayer and ministry of the Word
  • Acts 12:5 Peter’s arrest and miraculous delivery
  • Acts 13:1-4 Paul’s commission
  • Acts 14:23 Commissioning of Elders
  • Acts 16:25-26 Earthquake in Philippi
