His Word is a Lamp: Titus

​I don’t think I’m telling many of you anything new when I reflect on our society being a pressure cooker. Demands on our time, energy, availability, finances, and emotional capacity seem to be limitless. Our culture has gone many different directions in coping with life or avoiding it. As Christ believers and followers, we have our hope (the Blessed Hope, Titus 2:13) in Him. His grace has appeared for all people (Titus 2:11) and His grace even trains us to renounce the world and follow Him (2:12) via self-control and the pursuit of godliness.

Paul shares the key piece of our being the recipients of His grace in Titus 3:4-5, where Paul states, “He saved us”. I shared on Sunday and I will say it again that those are the best three words in Scripture! This salvation is not because of our righteousness works but because of His washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit. Apart from the Spirit’s presence and working in our lives, there would be no receiving or outworking of God’s grace in our lives. May we have open and receptive hearts to the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit because it’s only through Him we can walk through this crazy culture in which we live!
