Holy Spirit, Part 2

No one is established by wickedness,
but the root of the righteous will endure.
Prov. 12:3, ESV

Enduring in our faith is precisely what Jesus wants for us. Rootedness is a theme throughout Scripture. Jesus tells us to be rooted in Him (John 15:4-5). Roots help a plant or tree stay nourished and stand firm; spiritual roots do the same for us. The Holy Spirit roots us deeply in Christ and thus His ministry is of vital importance in our lives.
It’s in the power of the Holy Spirit that we

• bear fruit as believers (Gal. 5:22-23)
• can walk in victory over sin (Gal. 5:16), and
• deepen our fellowship with Jesus and one another (Gal. 5:6 & 15).

It’s no wonder that God would tell us to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 5:18)! Otherwise, as the video from Corrie Ten Boom reminded us on Sunday, without being filled with the Holy Spirit, we are just lifeless gloves without a hand to fill it, unable to do anything.
Oh Lord, may You be glorified in our lives in the power of the Holy Spirit!

Let us keep in step with the Spirit!

Questions for reflection and discussion:
Remember, bearing fruit in the Holy Spirit is the filling and overflowing of His Presence and ministry in our lives, not our self efforts.

• What areas of your life do you need to hand over to Him?
• What would it look like in your life to pause and reflect on what area of your flesh (sin nature) do you need to crucify (Gal. 5:25), in order to move forward with Jesus?
