Intercessory Prayer

1/7/2026

Prayer is a privilege purchased for believers by Jesus on the cross. In giving Himself sacrificially, He paid our debt, cleansed us of our sins and presented us to the Father. Furthermore, we have the privilege of intercessory prayer (praying for others) because Jesus lives to intercede for us (Heb. 7:25)  and it’s through Him and His ministry that we are able to approach the throne boldly (Heb. 4:16).
From our study in Philippians 1:7-11 on Sunday, we saw several observations about intercessory prayer:
  • is primarily concerned with the person’s relationship with Jesus, beginning with their salvation, Phil. 1:9.
  • hits at the deep spiritual level of our lives, Phil. 1:9b.
  • is purposeful, Phil. 1:10.
  • asks God to work in people’s lives, Phil. 1:10
  • is Spirit Filled, Phil. 1:11a.
  • has the goal of God’s glory in mind, Phil. 1:11b.

So then, let’s continue to seek the face of Jesus on behalf of others!
Pastor Andy

Questions:
  • Who are you already regularly praying for in your life? Take an honest mental inventory of your circle of prayer influence.
  • In what ways have you seen God work/intervene in the lives of the people that you are covering in prayer?
  • What specific person, need, missionary, or situation is God asking you to be praying about today? This week? This year?
