Intro to Ephesians

NewLife,

Eric began our journey through the book of Ephesians. Showing how Paul’s intention for the book wasn’t just for the church in Ephesus, but to those who would hear and take it back to their our towns and churches.
Ephesus was a port town where people came from all over, and Paul chose to teach twice a day for two years for that reason. Instead of focusing solely on a small town, he took advantage of the fact that Ephesus was a place where travelers came and went.
A perfect place to plant portable seeds.
Eric also reminded us that the Gospel brings transformation to our lives. Those who received it were convicted of their sorcery books - their idols. Even amidst protests that the Great Artemis should be praised, those who followed the Way knew otherwise. They turned away from man-made idols and sorcery and towards the Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit. 
Eric shared another lesson from Ephesus: Just because we say the words “in Jesus’ name” doesn’t mean it’s actually in Jesus’s name. The one saying it must have a relationship with Jesus for it to truly be in the name of Jesus. 

​So NewLife, let us take the Gospel, as the travelers did, as portable seeds ready to be planted along our path. May we get rid of - burn - the things in our lives that are not of God. The Spirit will convict us of what those are if we truly ask. Lastly, may we speak the name of Jesus as those who have a deep relationship with Him. Let our words not fall flat and be meaningless. Let our words represent the relationship we have with our Lord and Savior.
