I feel like Jeremy’s song captures the heart of what we examined in Scriptures for our first Sunday in Advent. Rev. 21:3-5 shows how we will enjoy God’s presence with us in the future in Heaven when there will be no more pain, suffering, illness, death, trials, etc. This promise for the future gives us something to hold on to now. Rather, it gives us Someone to hold on to until that day comes. That’s why I showed the clip from the Lord of the Rings where Sam is encouraging Frodo that the big stories of life give folks something to hold on to and look forward to with hope and anticipation. We have that hope because Jesus humbled Himself in giving up Heaven to come rescue us by dying on the cross. He kept going even though He knew it would cost Him everything. That’s why we can hold on to Jesus in His presence now, knowing that one day we’ll see Him face to face. 

Let’s encourage one another with that thought this Advent Season: There will be a day! And until then, He walks with us because He is Emmanuel-God with us!
