Palm Sunday: Prepare Him Room

With our celebration of Palm Sunday, we have officially entered Holy Week. As we noted on Sunday, these are our three goals for Holy Week:

Remember (Ps. 77:11)
Reflect (Ps. 77:12)
Refocus (Rev. 3:3)

We are engaging in these three practices in order to Prepare Him Room. This was our Christmas theme several years ago but it seemed very appropriate for us to use that same idea and Christmas song, as we reflect on Jesus this Holy Week. In fact, as we studied Jesus’ sending of two disciples to prepare the Upper Room for Him and the 12, they were literally preparing Him a room.

Thoughts to reflect on Preparing Him Room this week:

Jesus is The Teacher, which also means Master. He alone is worthy of our preparing room for Him in our hearts and lives, Mark 14:14.
The Master is worthy of our obedience, Mark 14:16.
Everything we own belongs to the Master, even our hearts, Mark 14:14 (The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room…” The owner graciously offered the room for Jesus to use.
The Master would fulfill everything written about Him, Mark 14:17.
The Master has much to say to us, so let’s give Him that space, Mark 14:15.
Let’s also not forget the lessons we learned from Peter’s denial of Jesus on how not to prepare Him room (Mark 14:27-31): let’s listen to Jesus, not insist on our own way or think we’re better disciples than others.

He stands at the door and knocks. He calls to us and offers to come into our lives and eat (have communion) with us. We must open the door to allow Him in. And, as we do so, He’ll begin to open up every room in our heart for Him.

We do all of this so that the King of Glory may enter our lives and have time and space with us.

Let’s Prepare Him Room!
