Spiritual Practices: Silence & Solitude

Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ,

Have you taken some time to sharpen your axe this week? Some of you have spent time in silence and solitude and some of you have not. For those of you who have tried, some have found it was good and others found it beyond challenging. For those of you who have not – please try. Trust that if Jesus took time away from the noise that we need it too. Silence and solitude is not a luxury – it is a necessity. For those who have felt defeated or stressed about the challenge of silence and solitude – keep doing it. Keep pressing on – you will see fruit from your perseverance.

You must learn to hear the voice of God – to hear those affirmations of who you are, of how God loves you and treasures you. You must begin challenging the voice in your head that beats you up and brings you down, the voice that tells you lies about yourself that keeps you stuck. The Truth will set you free – but we must take the time to hear the Truth.

I wish this was an easy process for everyone. For me, there are seasons where this is easy and there are seasons where it is hard – but no matter what the season is we must try. God wants to spend time with us and for us to hear His voice, to hear the Truth that He has for us. But it is up to us to stop the busyness long enough, to stop talking long enough, to be in the moment long enough, to hear.

I pray that you do.

God, I pray for my NewLife family that each one spends time with you in silence and solitude and that their efforts are not in vain. I pray that they hear you. Speak to them, God, and let Your Truth be known. We love You, adore You and give You all the honor and glory. Amen.
