The 2nd Coming of Christ

In light of the guaranteed 2nd coming of Christ, I feel convicted to pray for those who don’t know Jesus! This conviction can feel heavy, knowing people have rejected Christ and live without the Hope that comes from Jesus’ ultimate reign and victory over sin and death.

I am sure there are people in your life who do not want to hear the Gospel when you share it with them. They shut the conversation down or the conversation turns into a debate or an all-out argument. 

My conviction about praying comes from Luke 18:1-8, the parable of the Persistent Widow. The parable is not specifically about praying for people’s salvation. It is about a widow seeking justice from a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. She pled with the judge to grant her justice against her adversary.

Because of her persistence, the judge finally gave in to her and granted the justice she sought. Jesus pointed out that if the unjust judge gave justice, how much more will a just God give to those He has chosen. Scripture is filled with God answering prayers and hearing the cries of His people. 

Jesus told this parable to show the disciples they should always pray and not give up (v1). We are not able to save people – but we are called to pray for one another! We are called to share the Gospel and to press on toward the goal. So, hear this as an encouragement to keep praying for those in your life who are far from God. Be on your knees and intercede for your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers. They are longing for God, even if they don’t know it.

Take every person you encounter as a divine appointment and let the Holy Spirit guide your words and actions. Simple words of kindness, love, and hope can open doors that were previously shut. Persevere and be persistent. We can lean on each other when we are tired and frustrated. When we feel like we are not being heard by God, we can trust that the One we come before is not only just, but trustworthy, faithful, and gracious. He does hear every word and our spoken prayers are not in vain.
