Walk Worthy

9/3/2025

Paul had a clear picture of himself and what God’s purpose was for him, as he wrote, “Although I am less than the least of all God’s people, this grace was given to me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ.” (Eph. 3:8, NIV) By knowing the boundless riches of Christ so clearly, Paul understood that his imprisonment was for the Lord Jesus (Eph. 4:1) and that he could continue his role of making Christ known through his letters. In this letter, he urged the Ephesians to walk in a manner worthy of Christ.

Paul's first instructions about how to walk worthy were to be humble and gentle, patient and bearing with one another in love (Eph. 4:2). These relational exhortations would help preserve the unity of the Spirit which the Holy Spirit had given to them (and to us) (see Eph. 4:3). There was no place then or now for pride and harshness in the Church. How we treat and love one another will show the world that we belong to Jesus (John 13:35). If we’re constantly fighting, angry, and not united in Him, then our witness is compromised and we open ourselves for attack from the world and the enemy. It’s no wonder, then, that the prisoner Paul would so strongly emphasize that God is one in Eph. 4:3-6. This is the basis for our oneness and unity in Him. So, then let’s make sure we’re actively maintaining that unity.

Let’s walk in a manner worthy because He is worthy!

Pastor Andy

P.S. Please read Ephesians 4:7-16 for Sunday.

Questions for reflection or discussion:
  • What are effective practices that help you walk in humility and gentleness? Are you practicing them regularly?
  • What do you think unity means in the Church? Why do you think Paul would encourage this so strongly as a part of walking in a manner worthy of our calling?
  • In what ways do you think you help bring unity to the Church? If you’re being honest with yourself, are there ways you’re bringing any disunity?
