Walking with the Resurrected Jesus

4/30/2025

Have you ever been locked out of your home or your car? It’s a terrible feeling, isn’t it? It’s at once frustrating, annoying and worrisome. As I’m sure you can tell, this has happened to me before and honestly, it’s happened more than once. So now, I always double check to make sure that I have my keys with me. Our family does the same thing. A truth in our modern life is that we can’t go far without our keys and we can’t be home without them, either. I find the same is true in our relationship with Jesus. There are keys to walking with Him that if we don’t use them, we won’t go far in walking with Him. These keys aren’t special secrets for a select few nor are they a designer recipe for extra credit with Jesus. They are simple practices that help us know Him better.

Some of those keys are:
Having confidence in Christ because of His Resurrection. Seeing as He overcame death and the grave, there isn’t anything He cannot do. Plus, His promises came true about the Resurrection, so we can take confidence in all of His Promises (2 Peter 1:4).
Responding as He reflects your heart to you. This is key because as much as we think we understand our heart, Jeremiah reminds us that our heart is wicked and deceptive (Jer. 17:9), so we need Jesus to reflect our hearts to us and respond as He speaks and prompts us. This will require an intentional decision on our part to respond to Him with obedience.
Listening as He explains and opens the Scriptures to you. This is going to be very important in our journey with Him as He will instruct us in the way we should go (Ps. 32:8) and will work in our hearts, lives, and relationships through His Word (Heb. 4:16, 2 Tim. 3:16).
Responding to Him once He’s opened your eyes to who He is. Responding is crucial in all of this. God doesn't want false worship (Matt. 15:8 ) as all of the prophets expressed. He opens our eyes with understanding so that we can not only have a simple understanding of who He is but to place our full faith in Him.
Walking in gratefulness that He gives us a burning heart in our fellowship with Him. What a kind act of faithfulness on the Lord’s part to give us a burning heart when He’s near, speaking or leading us. Now, as a word of caution, I don’t necessarily think that we have to have a burning heart every minute of every day in this pursuit of Him, so don’t make that your goal but rather pursue Him and allow Him to work in you whatever ways He desires. And, if you have a burning heart too much, you might need to take an antacid once in a while

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to make sure that I have my keys with me,
Pastor Andy
