Who Do You Say I Am?

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Matt. 16:16, NIV

Jesus points out a great blessing in Peter’s life, which perhaps Peter may not have even realized that he had. Upon Peter’s confession of Christ, Jesus told him that it was definitely not a human who helped him understand who Jesus was! Rather it was God the Father. In the same way, Jesus tells us that no one can come to Him unless the Father draws them (John 6:44). 

What’s that mean for us? Well, for one thing, it means that we can’t compel the Father to give us revelation of Jesus nor is He obligated to do so. But it does mean that we can (and should) respond as He graciously draws us ever closer to Jesus. We can have open and willing hearts to follow Him as He calls us to Himself through Jesus. Furthermore, as we draw closer to Jesus, our hearts begin to change and we find ourselves wanting more and more of Him. All of this is a working of the Father’s  grace. 

Who do you say He is? And do you live your life as though He is who you say He is?
Lord, please give us a responsive heart as you make your Son known to us!
