Living the New Life

9/24/2025

Hi NewLife Family,

The Ephesian believers were living in a city that had a massive temple dedicated to a false god. It was so big that it was considered as one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. It was called the temple of Artemis and its adherents were the ones who caused Paul much difficulty in his ministry there (see Acts 19:23-41). They stirred up such opposition to the gospel and Paul’s ministry that a riot broke out. In fact this was so impactful to Paul, that near the end of his life, Paul warned Timothy to be aware of this same riotous, oppositional leader for his own ministry at Ephesus (2 Tim. 4:14-15).

The worldview people subscribe to is vastly important in their lives. Different worldviews lead to different outcomes. The world is increasingly coming into conflict with the Christian faith and worldview. In short, it’s two kingdoms that are in conflict: God’s Kingdom of Light versus the Kingdom of Darkness. How are we to live in such times?

Realize that the world is walking in darkened understanding with hardened, calloused hearts (Eph. 4:17-19).
Realize that we have the truth of Jesus in our hearts because we have placed our faith in Him and we are to be devoted to Him (Eph. 4:20-21).
Realize that we must put off our old self (as I illustrated on Sunday with two different coats), be renewed in the spirit of our minds, and put on the new self that’s been created after God's likeness in true righteousness and holiness (Eph. 4:22-24).
Realize then, that having this new life in the gospel is through Jesus’ life in us. Thus, there ought to be fruit of a changed life within us and in how we treat other members of the body (Eph. 4:25-27).

Which coat (nature) are you wearing today?

Blessings as He renews your mind in your journey with Him,

Pastor Andy

Please read Ephesians 4:29-32 for Sunday.

For Reflection & Prayer:

Here is the chorus from the song, “Redeemed”, which we sang on Sunday. I encourage you to pray through this a couple of times this week:

I am redeemed, You set me free

So I’ll shake off these chains

Wipe away every stain

Now I’m not who I used to be
