The Light of the World

4/14/2022

As we look to this week, Holy Week, may we remember Christ’s passion and willingness to fulfill His purpose on this earth. He chose to sit in our darkness so that we have light to see and to shine before others.

Jesus calls Himself the Light of the World (John 8:12). Jesus wants to be the light that shines in and through us – but the first thing we must do is let His light take the darkness out of ourselves. We must position ourselves to be used by God, and that means to be free from sinful lifestyles. Living in sin keeps our relationship with Jesus at arm's length with no hope to go deeper in our understanding and relationship with Jesus. By living in darkness, we choose our way over Christ’s way.

So, if you are asking what specifically we do to walk out of darkness and into the light...

Acknowledge where you are and what you are doing that is considered living in sin. Then confess to someone(s) you know. Andy and I are more than willing to sit with you and talk about it – process it to begin the healing process and pray over you. Then as Jesus told the woman caught in adultery – Go and sin no more.

That phrase is so much easier said than done. We must work with others in the presence of the Holy Spirit to be free. When we talk about living in sin – to get out of it takes redemption, transformation and a lifestyle change. We have to do something different – choose a different path. Taking a different path takes time, takes others, and time with God daily.

In conclusion NewLife, we must pursue God and live in community if we want to see the transformation God has for us. Lastly, NewLife, we need to put our stones down and let God be judge. We can speak to our brothers and sisters in love and have conversations about sin – but let us not use those opportunities to throw stones, but to encourage and empower others to seek God, to pray for our brothers and sisters, and to offer hope in a time of desperation.

God, may we use our hands to embrace one another – not to hold stones.

Blessings,
Pastor Kyle
